Privacy policy
Last updated October 13, 2026
- Everything you enter stays on your phone, in an encrypted database.
- We don’t collect, receive, sell or share any of your information. We have no servers that could hold it.
- No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- You can delete everything at any time from inside the app.
This policy covers the Précis app for iPhone and Android, made by KAND CA Corp (“we”). Précis helps you keep a one-page summary of your medications and lab results to show a doctor.
What the app stores, and where
Précis stores what you choose to add:
- Profile details: a name and date of birth for each person you keep a summary for.
- Medications: name, ingredient, strength, form, directions, DIN, prescriber, pharmacy and dates.
- Lab results: test name, value, unit, reference range, collection date and lab name.
- The text read from each photo, so you can see which line each field came from. Health card numbers are masked before this text is saved.
All of this is kept only on your device, in a database encrypted with a 256-bit key. The key is generated on your phone and kept in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore. It never leaves the device.
Photos and the camera
When you scan a pill bottle, prescription or lab printout, Précis reads the text on your phone using the system’s built-in text recognition (Apple Vision on iPhone, Google ML Kit running on the device on Android). The photo is not uploaded anywhere. The working copy the app makes is deleted once the text has been read. If you pick a photo from your library, the original stays in your library, untouched.
The app asks for camera access to take these photos and, on iPhone, photo library access to choose an existing one. You can turn these off in your phone’s settings and add records by hand instead.
No internet connection
Précis does not send data over the internet. The Android app doesn’t request the internet permission at all. The medication reference it uses (Health Canada’s Drug Product Database) is bundled inside the app, so looking up a DIN happens on your phone.
What we collect
Nothing. We don’t collect personal information, health information, usage data, crash reports, device identifiers or location. We don’t use advertising or analytics services, and no third-party code in the app collects data for us or anyone else.
Apple and Google may give us aggregate download and crash statistics through their developer consoles, under their own privacy policies, if you have chosen to share them with app developers in your phone’s settings. These don’t include anything you enter in Précis.
Sharing your summary
You decide when to share. “Show doctor” displays your summary on your own screen. If you export a PDF, your phone’s share sheet opens and the PDF goes only where you send it, for example to email, Files or a printer. Once you send it, that copy is handled by whoever you sent it to.
Backups and new phones
On Android, the app opts out of system backup. On iPhone, a device backup may include the encrypted database, but the key is stored as “this device only”, so the database can’t be opened from a backup or on another phone. If you change phones, export a PDF first and add your records again on the new phone.
Deleting your data
- Edit or delete any medication, lab result or profile in the app.
- Settings → Delete all data erases every record and the encryption key.
- Uninstalling the app removes its data from your phone.
Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side and no account to close.
Children and family members
Précis is meant for adults. You can keep a profile for a child or anyone you care for. Their information is stored the same way as yours, only on your phone. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Not medical advice
Précis copies what is printed on your labels and lab reports. It does not diagnose, interpret results or give medical advice. It is not a medical device.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date above. If a future version of the app ever handled data differently, we would explain it here and in the app before the change took effect.
